Jouissance red

In 2009 I completed a PhD (practice led) in Fine Art at Bath School of Art & Design, Bath UK. This involved testing painting's material, visual and spatial aspects and part of my initial enquiry centred on East Coast Minimalism and artists' use of repeated elements in a single colour - I began with red. Limiting myself to one colour meant I was able to concentrate on the practical aspects of my research into painting without the added distraction of colour combinations. Red, more than any other colour, acts as a trigger for meaning; at the same time comic and grotesque - like the worst kind of clown.

I have works in private collections in the UK, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Sweden, and the USA, and engaged in artists' residencies in the UK (Worcester City Museum, the Henry Moore Institute, 44AD) and the USA (Ox-bow/School of the Arts Institute, and The Mars Gallery Chicago). I have given presentations and conference papers in the UK (Univ. of Aberystwyth, Univ. of Derby, Univ. of West of England, Bath Spa Univ., Corsham court, The Henry Moore Institute, Univ. of Leeds), and abroad (University of Groningen Netherlands, Ox-bow SAIC USA).

Today Linda Khatir lives in Sala Sweden, 59.9166N 16.6E, and continues to engage in artistic research, writing and teaching. She also works closely with another artist (Michele Whiting) as Quilos and the Windmill collaborating in elsewhere - the space between the UK and Sweden, and is a member of the Space Place Practice Research Group (UK). Khatir is co-founder of the Drawing Foundation which provides courses for learners of all abilities - both studio based and distance.
